To make it simple, World Expo is a grand gathering and celebration of different cultures from across the world and this event first started in 1851 and rotate the location among countries every few years.

This year, World Expo will take place in Shanghai China from May 1st to October 31st with a center theme: "Better City, Better Life". Future urban design, sustainable development are some of the important subjects to be addressed.

While what makes World Expo so exciting is the opportunity to “preview our future”. More than 264 participating countries will use their most talented teams to create a blueprint to build a “prototype kingdom” – an onsite Pavilion to showcase their ideas about what their ideal land will be in the years to come.

As you can imagine, the fanciest technology, the best preserved cultural practices, the smartest economic models and whatever makes city life charming and enjoyable will be presented at the Fair.

Although this is not a competition, it is hard not to try every single efforts, as the whole world is watching and comparing. Hence why people believe this will create a magical architecture wonder.

So what happens after October 31st? Well, as in James Bond movies, top secrets must be destroyed immediately. Hence other than "One axis and four pavilions", everything will be torn down to preserve each nation’s top intellectual property assets. This “Tomorrow land” will only have 5 months life cycle. So unless you can invent a time machine, the best way to play fortune teller is to visit the Expo!

What if you can’t physically go to Shanghai? Well, the beauty of technology leaves us no worries and the future has everything planned out! Check out World Expo’s Virtual Fair online at: http://en.expo2010.cn/index.htm there’s detailed audio guide, interactive forums, and when the expo officially opens, there will be daily entertainment and live broadcasting! Our future, looks truly bright! Be sure to witness this magical future event that will soon become part of the history! - By Michelle Lin

<link rel='alternate' type='text/html' href='http://ethicaljourneys.blogspot.com/2010/04/preview-future-world-expo-2010.html' title='Preview the Future! Yet, after the laugh, many often find themselves lost in the conversation with no clue on “what the bloody hell is your Aussie mate talking about?”

First of all, Aussies love nicknaming by embellishing the endings of names. They often add on an “O” so if your name is David, you become a “Davo.” Another common ending is “IE” so if you are Christal, you become Christie.

Aussies also love shortening words. Many people have heard of the renowned Australian actor, Paul Hogan, who said “Throw another shrimp on the Barbie,” in an advertisement. To Americans, Barbie is the doll, but “Aussie Barbie” is the delicious barbeque. You will be surprised to see how many shortened, slang words like this when you travel across Australia.

So Cabernet Sauvignon is the “Cab Sav” and Volkswagen becomes the “Vee dub”. India is known for its spiritual nature, but it is also believed to be losing much of that peace and harmony to modernization. Music festivals, however, have been keeping these ancient ideas alive by continuing the rituals that have been passed down for centuries.

It is unknown when music became such an important part of Indian culture. However, it is well-known that music has played a vital role for the Indian people since ancient times. Although there have been many transformations, music has still maintained its vitality in Indian culture. Festivals and celebrations are common throughout India every year, and renowned performers and artists can be found creating beautiful music for the public to enjoy.

One of the most popular music festivals is put on by corporate giant ITC. Known as the Sangeet Sammelan, this yearly festival showcases the greatest talents in classical music throughout India. It became a tradition after the first festival was held in Delhi in 1971. ITC wanted to help keep the spiritual music at the forefront of Indian culture, and this celebration was created to honor the prestigious artists who continue to pass the musical traditions along. Sangeet is a combination of vocals, music, and dance. Despite its complexity, Sangeet is the underpinning for the classical arts of India, where emotions are meant to be passionately evoked.

There are two important parts of Indian classical music known as Hindustani and Carnatic. These two classifications, when combined, represent the North and South of India. Sangeet Sammelan focuses mostly on the Hindustani sector, and the ITC firmly believes that festivals such as this continue to perpetuate harmony and peace throughout Indian culture. Because of its value with communicating with the Gods, Hindustani is a mostly vocalized type of music, and the instruments used help to emulate the important vocals in each song. The celebration never ceases to amaze those who attend.

The classical music of India appeals to all ages, but it is the eldest performers who get the most special treatment. It is common in India to pay respect to elders, and the eldest performers of the festival are given a large cash reward as a type of homage to their status. Benefits like this help to keep the spiritual focus alive for those who will be able to pass down their beliefs to younger generations.

Cultures may differ in beliefs and values, but music can be a vehicle that links diverse cultures from around the world. India may appear to be losing some of its spirituality, but anyone who has the privilege to attend such a stunning display of music appreciation will immediately change their mind. India may become a modernized nation, but their divine history is still full of life through the art of song.

By: Lisa DiBenedetto

Photos from

http://www.indiatimes.com/
http://www.chandrakantha.com/

Scrapbook your Trip for Endless Memories

The holidays are coming up and there is no better conversation starter than a scrapbook documenting a recent trip. I can’t wait to see the section which will be exhibited in Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York, and I’m sure one day I’ll see the entire piece of it in Lod.

By: Christal Fang

Backpacking through Europe- Part 2

Italy was superb. I visited Milan, Florence and Rome. Each city had its own, unique flair. Milan was a posh city which was filled with shopping. The main square had a striking church in the center, the Duomo. It is the third largest church in .
the world. It looks like a massive sand castle, although extremely intricate. The church was absolutely spectacular. Along the top, there was a roof-top walk. Walking along the top and seeing the detailed architecture was breathtaking

Florence was delightful. The Florence Cathedral was striking. Ghiberti’s Gates of Paradise stand across from the cathedral and is most remarkable itself. The Academy holds Michelangelo’s David. The sculpture of David is astonishing to see in person. The rivers along Florence are quaint and pleasant to look at. The well-known city has such a small-town appeal.

Rome provided me with such a sense of astonishing history that I never thought I would experience. From the ancient Coliseum to Vatican City, there are no words that can give them justice. The Coliseum had an epic air that made me feel as if I was in a place of great importance. Seeing Circus Maximus where gladiators trained to being blessed by the Pope at St. Peter’s Basilica, I made the most of being in Rome. Experiencing the Sistine Chapel full of Michelangelo’s frescoes was a once in a lifetime experience. Rome has a powerful hybrid of art history, religious history and political history which makes it truly one of a kind.

Munich was one of the most historic cities I visited. As being the place of origin of World War One and World War Two, the monuments Munich contained were inspirational and educational. To actual see how a country re-invented itself post war, rather than learning it in history class was remarkable. The city was marked with many monuments to commemorate those who suffered in World War Two. I had no idea Munich had such an abundance of history to offer. Munich also had Glockenspiel, which was a huge clock in the main square, a staple of its local culture. When the hour struck, bells rang and jousting figurines came out like a cuckoo clock. Visiting Augustiner Keller, Munich’s oldest beer garden, was a real cultural experience also. Bavarian food and beer are considerable roots in Munich’s interesting culture.

I wasn’t in Berlin, Germany and Prague, Czech Republic for very long. However, I was able to get a vague sense of both cities. Berlin was historic, yet more metropolitan than Munich. Prague was quaint and consistent with similar architecture through out.

Last, I visited the Frankfurt area. I was in Frankfurt, Germany during the Iron Man competition, which was a huge triathlon. It was very interesting to be in the city at that time. I then met up with some of my family who live nearby in the small city of Lohr am Main. I visited Lohr, where I can trace my family’s roots and learned so much about family history.

I took a day trip to Wurzburg, Germany where I visited the Residence, which is an elaborate building modeled after Versailles. The Residence had beautiful gardens surrounding it with an extravagant church next to it. The church was filled with gold leaf decorations inside. After seeing an overabundance of churches in Europe, the church in Wurzburg was the most impressive.

Backpacking through Europe- Part 1

After graduating college, I decided to embark on a self-planned journey around Europe carrying nothing but a backpack. I’ve always wanted to go on a serious traveling trip, seeing and learning everything about a city as possible instead of simply vacationing.

So I visited 13 cities in 21 days. Every city had so much to offer and was so special in its unique way.

I got to experience the charm of Ireland first. Dublin is full of tradition and culture. With classic places like Trinity College and Kilmainham Prison to visit, it’s impossible not to learn about Dublin’s present and powerful past. Kilmainham Prison is a jail rich with stories of rebellions from Irish prisoners of the past. Walking through the prison was such an experience since the eerie ambiance the prison possessed gave me chills.

Cork, Ireland was my next stop. It is a quaint city that is much less metropolitan than Dublin. Right outside Cork is Blarney Castle. Blarney Castle is a must-see since I felt like I was entering a fairy-tale visiting it. The castle grounds have the richest greens and plant life you could find with secret spots to explore. Visiting the castle was truly an adventure. The massive castle with steep and narrow steps to the top was breathtaking. I kissed the Blarney stone and learned the difference between “blarney” and “baloney.” There is a plethora of things to do and Ireland is eager to share its traditions with you.

The next stop was London. London is a metropolis focused around British royalty. It has a unique flair that no other city possesses. Westminster, London Tower and Buckingham Palace are a few of the timeless places to visit. London Tower was historically set up with a trebuchet and other British artillery. The atmosphere provided a sense of the past, while the city itself was extremely sophisticated.

Amsterdam is such a quaint city, rich with historic tales of merchants and business deals. As a city that was built on trade and commerce, there are picturesque canals and cobblestone streets everywhere. Seeing the churches and religious establishments like Oude Kerk and Begjinhof made the history of Protestants and Catholics in Amsterdam fascinating to learn about. Another interestingfact about Amsterdam is that people bike everywhere. Bicycles have the right of way over pedestrians, trains and cars.

Paris was beautiful. The gardens were lustrous and the fruit, cheese and wine were divine. Of course, nothing compared to the art. Paris is full of art and culture. Visiting the Louvre and the Musee D’Orsay are musts. I had one of the most amazing times experiencing the edifying Louvre. The Louvre has a range from ancient to modern art and showcases the traditional, classic art that was welcomed and embraced during the Impressionist period. The Musee D’Orsay showcases the “rejects” of the Impressionist time, who are those we regard as geniuses today. Artists such as Monet, Manet and Courbet are a few who are featured in the Musee D’Orsay. Obviously the Eiffel Tower and Arc Triomph are stunning staples in Paris’ culture as well and must be seen in person.

Barcelona was simply wonderful. It was my favorite city through out the whole trip to visit. The Mediterranean Ocean was gorgeous, the beaches were relaxing and the people were so friendly. The city is an optimum city in Europe to visit because it embraces the best-rounded things to do and see. The people of Barcelona gleamed with nationalism and pride for their city and country. They celebrated life and simply enjoyed living. While walking back from the beach, I passed a huge fountain with fluorescent lights and Spanish music playing. There were street performers and crowds of people gathered around. Everyone came together to celebrate Barcelona culture. It was a remarkable experience to witness the sense of community Barcelona had.

By: Laura Schneebacher

To taste is to believe! The secret: Fresh ingredient. Executive Chef Anne Gingrass of Brix (http://www.brix.com/) used herbs grown in the on site garden to season the chicken I ate, which was full of flavor.

Christopher Kostow, the Michelin 2-star young chef, also said that being able to use local veggies from the farm helps enhance his magic cooking. He changes the menus seasonally based on what is available and in season. No wonder The Restaurant at Meadowood (www.meadowood.com/wine-and-cuisine/the-restaurant) is always fully booked.

Another great place to eat is on the Napa Valley Wine Train (http://www.winetrain.com/ ), but the experience is so much more than great food. In an old fashion train car, I traveled from Napa to St. Helena, and back, seeing all the beautiful Napa vineyards and the mountains in the background. It was such a relaxing way to see the Valley, but that does not mean there wasn’t excellent food. Chef Kelly Macdonald and his staff prepare gourmet meals while the train is moving, in an extremely small kitchen. It amazed me that such tasty food could be prepared in such an unusual environment.

In addition to food, what amazed me the most is the architecture of the wineries and estates whether historical or modern ones.

The Rhine house at Beringer (http://www.beringer.com/) was built in 1884 as first owner Fredrick Beringer’s home. Residing on the oldest continuous operating winery in America, the house embodies the old days of America’s wine culture. The 17 room house still has the original floor, dining room, and remarkably still has the original stain glass windows. Walking through the house, with many original features and other restored elements, I felt like I could sense Fredrick’s original thoughts concerning creating the ageless mansion.

After seeing a house with such strong history, it’s hard to believe that the Castello Di Amorossa (http://www.castellodiamorossa.com/) does not have the same rich past and only opened two years ago. The building truly looks like an authentic medieval castle complete with a draw bridge, look out tower, and black gates for doors. As I walked down to the underground barrel room, I felt as If I was walking into the dungeon of an old European castle. It looks and feels so real that I almost persuaded myself a royal family once lived here for hundreds of years.

The Persian palace at Darioush (http://www.darioush.com/) is another modern location that seems like it has a lot of history behind it. Opened in 2004, this palace is designed to look like something from the ancient Persian Empire’s capital city. With tall columns, tan stone, clean lines, and soft earth tones, it did make me feel as if I had traveled back in time to the ancient city. There is history, beauty, gourmet food, and lovely architecture. On top of all this, it is a friendly place where people support each other with full passion to their home and the land. One of the best examples is Festival Del Sole (http://www.festivaldelsole.com/), where celebrities like Robert Redford, Renee Fleming; local vintners and wine makers get together with local residents to raise fund for charities.

Since Napa is a place based on friendship instead of competition, it is a very nice change from the way the rest of America conducts itself.

Written by: Melissa Howard, PR Assistant

<link rel='alternate' type='text/html' href='http://ethicaljourneys.blogspot.com/2009/07/napa-unique-land.html' title='To taste is to believe! The diversity of culture, education, and architecture and shopping makes Hong Kong one of the most popular destinations of the world. However, to me, a half-Hong Kong girl, the most amazing thing here is the food! As a kid, I was so eager to try the hamburgers, yet the entire mainland China didn’t even have a clue of what's McDonald or KFC! Guess where I tasted my first burger in my life? Yes, it's Hong Kong!

Now as a New Yorker working as an internatioinal travel consultant, I am spoiled and have become a truly picky eater. To gratify my desire, I traveled back to Hong Kong a lot, dozens of times during the past 10 years, only to shop and eat! There's no other places that makes me happier, as a gourmet, Hong Kong is definitely the most exciting place for me, and the convenience of finding what you want to eat 24 x7 is just unbelivable - restaurants are everywhere. Even Cantonese has a saying that “If you want to eat, eat in Hong Kong”, and it is indeed a paradise for fine food.

Earlier this week, I received several gourmet guides from Hong Kong Tourism Bureau and a press release with an interesting news that caught my attention – Hong Kong is becoming the heaven for not only food, but also wine!

HK government recently enacted a policy to abolish the tax of alcohol and allowing Hong Kong to be the hub of wine importing in Asia and across the world. Just in case you don’t know this yet, 2009 is the Food & Wine Year in Hong Kong. If you are nearby, or if you love food and wine as much as I do, then don't miss it: Hong Kong Wine and Dine Festival.

Hong Kong will forever be my city of food, (and now the wine capital), and TRAVEL! Who can reject an invitation of super delicious banquet accompanied by world class wine? Don’t mention the world renowned hotels like Intercontinental (My favorite) and The Peninsula.

I am planning a Hong Kong Epicurean Journey for food lovers around Chinese New Year 2010, and will invite my special friend, Jody Ness, host of Wine Portfolio to join (http://www.wineportfoliotv.com/). This trip is all about food, wine, shopping, cooking, great hotel and special opportunities to meet the chefs. If you want a super fun trip and be able to look at Hong Kong from a different perspective, stay tuned!

I am going to continue reading the amazing restaurant guides and recipe books, and you should too, visit http://www.hkfoodandwineyear.com/.

Photo credit: Hong Kong Tourism Board

The Real Beijing Gourmet!

When travelling to a new place, people always want to live like how locals live and eat the ‘most local’ food. And there is no exception for Beijing. What local food do Beijing people like? Here are some tips from a real Beijinger.

Soybean Paste Noodle (Zhajiangmian)
One of Beijingers’ everyday favorite because no one can resist the smell of stir-fried salty sauce made of soybean and pork mince. You can mix cucumber slices, bean sprouts and carrot slices into the noodle bowl.

The restaurant option: Haiwanju has got the waiters that will serve you exactly the way of the old Beijing’s restaurants. Beijing Zhajiangmian Dawang is another option and they have a place near the Temple of Heaven. Both of them serve other traditional Beijing food which is worth trying as well.

Haiwanju
Add. Soya drink is milk for Beijing people; stir-fried bread and pancake are very common seen breakfast. Fried lever and boiled tripe are also very welcomed. As for desert, we have Aiwowo (steamed rice cake with sweet stuffing), Wandouhuang (sweet pea purée) and many kinds of yogurt-like stuff.

It will be a challenging job for travelers, even local, to find the most traditional places for these nibbles. They usually hide in the corner of an old Hutong, and only specialize in one type of food. That’s how they name their places: food name plus family name.

Luckily, now we can enjoy many things together in one meal. Restaurants like Jiumenxiaochi and Huguosixiaochi have gathered many of the famous names together. Spend 10-15 yuan, and you will enjoy many of the local Beijing food.

Jiumenxiaochi
Add. These three exhibitions allowed me to interact with travel professionals closely and they gave me a deeper understanding and different perspectives to other cultures.

Being one of the largest travel shows in the US, The New York Times Travel Show always attracts a lot of exhibitors worldwide. This is about to be one of the most colorful events in the city, and many representatives put on their unique costumes while others gave performances on their own traditional techniques such as Korean paper-fan painting and Chinese paper silhouette. This multi-cultural, diversified travel event was like an epitome of American society. You will see so many happy faces and experience the relaxing atmosphere that you’d almost forget that you are in world’s fastest-paced financial center- Manhattan.

Being in EMITT is another feeling. I was amazed right at the moment I stepped in. The entire hall was full of cultural music and dance from Mediterranean countries - Egypt, Turkey, Syria and so on. When I spoke with the various people on site during our meetings, some dancers came and danced around us; it’s amusing and changed my entire impression. Due to the background and distance, I’ve always thought that people and the culture in Middle East are more serious, while I enjoyed so much of their warms and hospitality while sipping the traditional drinks and snacks from their native countries.

GITB is a travel show arranged by the tourism board, and they invited travel professionals from all over the world in the hope that they can help promote tourism business in India. I have always known from the Indian Americans that they are about the most diligent workers, but I learned first-hand how truly hard-working members of this culture are.

They won’t miss one single opportunity to present their services and follow up with us immediately and persistently. The exhibition hall was 5 floor building and I had to make around 50 appointments in 2 days, with a session that lasts 15 minutes each. It’s difficult for me to run up and down and locate some exhibitors especially under the time restraints. At one point, they in fact sent people to look for me in the exhibition hall and guide me through the direction. That was truly impressive!

I had a newfound understanding as to why most Indian people are so successful in business. They’re willing to walk extra miles to make things happen and when opportunities come, they will hold it tight with true passion. I really admire this working attitude. Building strong relationships, harnessing positive energy and creating an everlasting balance are the most fundamental aspects of life in China, and the World Exposition in Shanghai next year will generate these peaceful feelings around the globe.

Instead of yin and yang, the harmony between people all over the world will be welcomed by Haibao, the little blue personification of the Chinese character that means people. His blue hue and wave of hair are representative of the coastal city that is Shanghai, while his “thumbs-up” expresses Haibao’s acceptance of people from all cultures. The only way to create harmony between people is by being open and accepting, and Haibao is an all encompassing and adorable figure of balance and acceptance.

The motto, “Better City, Better Life,” focuses on the importance of harmony in urbanization. With numerous cities around the world becoming extremely populated, there are more and more people interacting with one another. In Shanghai in particular, many problems have become apparent and are disrupting the harmony of the city. As one may assume, problems have great potential to occur when there is an influx of people to an area. These problems have included running out of room for the population, incurring a shortage of resources, and vastly different cultures colliding and causing conflicts.

The Chinese government is on a path to making the country a harmonious society, and according to recent data from the harmony survey on http://www.china.gov.cn/ , Shanghai is well on its way to becoming a balanced city where men and women can enjoy a good quality of life while maintaining a balance between man and the natural environment. The World’s Fair will only help to further the push toward a balanced city for Shanghai, the rest of China, and the rest of the world.

The most prominent aspect of harmony comes from the 2010 logo. It features three humans joined together. These three – me, you, and him/her – are symbolic of mankind uniting together as one entity. The shape of the emblem was inspired by the Chinese character for world. Harmony is such a crucial part of the theme for the World’s Expo, and as a result this emblem will be displayed all throughout the fair to keep the harmonious tone at the forefront of everyone’s mind during the exhibition.

The World’s Expo in Shanghai China is just over a year away, but there is already electricity in the air as the city prepares itself for the first world exposition in a developing country since 1851. There is a hope that visitors to the fair will be able to soak up the peaceful nature of China that the culture is so proudly based upon.

About the Author: Lisa DiBenedetto is the Marketing & PR Assistant at EAST Tours. Therefore we spend a lot of time with our clients helping them to experience new worlds, opening their eyes and encouraging them to expand their horizons. Travel is very educational.

As this is a core value of ours, it is a practice that we embrace. Ours is a dynamic and ever changing industry and so we invest continually in our people and product.

One of the ways in which we do this is to attend select travel conferences and international events dedicated to the global luxury travel industry. This year alone we will have team member participate in forums and conventions in Cannes, Rome, Lugano, India, Dubai, South Africa, Australia and more. It’s a busy schedule but we think it’s a valuable investment in our team and in our product. As a gourmet, I always believe cuisine ties strongly to the lifestyle of different cultures; for example, fast food emphasizing efficiency is a reflection of the busy lifestyle; and in Canton and Hong Kong, soup is a staple to local’s day to day life – it’s not just something that people have during the meal, it’s also a supplement that fights against illness and maintain the body’s wellness.

Just like most Cantonese, I grew up with soup. According to the climate and my health condition, my mom would “customize” it with different ingredients. To really enhance the flavor and to allow the nutrient to release from the ingredient, she’d use a small fire to slow cook-it on the oven for hours, we call it “Old Fire Soup”.

Almost each of the Cantonese household has their own recipes, and I like corn soups the best. Corn helps lower cholesterol and regulates digestion. I often add carrots, water chestnuts and pork together to a pot of boiling water, cover and boil in low heat for 2 hours. According to Chinese Medicine, this dish is good for health and overall well-being.

After I learned how to prepare the soup, I could start to understand how much time and thought my mom put into the soup. To me, Old Fire Soup means a lot more than just a dish. It’s a form of love. No wonder Cantonese believe that soup helps a person feel refreshed and calm – who wouldn’t after tasting something that made with such a fond affection. Cantonese soup to me is a tradition, a culture and my childhood memory.

About the Author: Christal Fang is a Certified China Specialist and Senior Product Manager at EAST Tours. I asked our server for his suggestion, and he shared a welcoming smile which put me at ease.

"Chicken Korma,” he suggested. Instead of crying out “Chicken Coma???,” I politely asked, “How is it?”

“It’s really good,” he responded kindly. I believed him and am glad I did. It was so delicious that later, I decided to find the recipe and cook it again by myself. It seems to be quite easy according to the instruction. Simmer the chicken and add a lot of spices – coriander, garam nasala, cumin, turmeric and chili powder... Sadly, I felt my dish was missing something special.

“Why is that?” I asked a friend from India years later. “Many people thought Indian food is all about the unique range of spices, but that really isn’t the only factor to bring out the rich flavor and aroma. You would have to use different time-honored techniques while cooking, whether to roast, to fry or to stew” my friend Ajay said.

Now, living in the New York area gives me the privileged to taste various types of international cuisine and they all illuminate me with the same idea that food can unite people from different backgrounds.

What was “really good” to the server now was “really good” to me. Every culture has a cuisine, just like every person as a personality. Strange spices and new tastes should excite, rather than deter, and should inspire, rather than intimidate. Uniqueness can be shared, and that is something that can unite us all. As long as we always keep our mind open during the exploration, we will always be able to experience the very best of it.

Photos courtesy of Incredible India

E.A.S.T. - Our Core Value

EAST Tours pursues a goal far more than just operating tours: We believe that world travel is a method to bridging all gaps, and EAST Tours will be the bridge-builder.

Ethical Journeys

Travel should always be unforgettable, exciting and rewarding. It should change your life and the lives of those you meet along the way. To further enhance the experience and magnify the benefits, EAST Tours focuses on promoting Ethical Journeys. We feel this is the best way to learn about local cultures and practices, to benefit people and the community, and to rejuvenate the environment and the world. With a philosophy of cross-cultural understanding, personal contact and environmental stewardship, we are dedicated to creating life-changing and life-affirming experiences.

Journeys often start with imagination and expectations, and by opening your heart and mind, hope and love grow without boundaries. Through ethical journeys, we will build a better tomorrow!

Authentic Experiences

The most enduring memories are ones that are real and genuine; simple yet touching. And so meaningful events and special activities are always included when you journey with EAST Tours. Access, participation, engagement and involvement are the touchstones of our itineraries.

Whether you’re sampling a homemade dish, meeting a village elder, teaching a lesson in a school, donating a buffalo to a farmer's family, or helping to sponsor a hearing aid for a deaf child, we believe that good deeds come from the bottom of your heart and originate from authentic interactions.
Sophisticated Style

In our dictionary, 'sophisticated' means luxury and style, passion and inspiration; it is a physical experience plus a state of mind. Five star hotels and upscale restaurants can be easily accessed; but exceptional experiences require much deeper care and thought. At EAST Tours sophisticated travel goes far beyond reservations and operation, it is a mixture of research, organization and analysis. This is the blending of psychology and fine arts.
We understand the true essence of luxury does not come from the infrastructure, so EAST Tours' journeys are always subtle yet audacious, refined and responsible. Service is the cornerstone of our mission. Our dedication to quality comes with faith and compassion that we can touch travelers' hearts and enlighten local people's lives. Our programs are meticulous in their execution and extravagant in their design.

Touching Memories

Travel isn’t just about the destination; it is the journey itself that makes a trip special. You may not remember the exact name of every town you visit, but you will never forget that small child who befriends you and waves you goodbye with tears; you may not recall the location of a certain monastery, the inspiration of the monks' chants will stay with you forever. This is what travel is all about; to grow, expand, live, love and share. It is to offer the best to the world, and to experience the best the world has to offer.

At EAST Tours, we only arrange visits to the world's most stirring destinations and we only focus on journeys that are discriminating, touching, and sublime. We are as exclusive as our clientele, as diligent as our partners. In the words of Jawaharal Nehru, "We live in a wonderful world that is full of beauty, charm and adventure. There is no end to the adventures we can have if only we seek them with our eyes open." A journey with EAST Tours means an experience that opens your mind and touches your heart!

Contributing One Click at a Time

Little acts can contribute to making the world a better place - recycling, choosing a refillable water bottle, using public transportation—there are so many ways, and my favorite one only takes the click of a mouse. One click here to help save the rainforest, and then another click there will help end world hunger.

To see what I mean, run a keyword search for "click to donate" and you will find hundreds of sites: solve a word puzzle and 1 cent will be donated to underprivileged children globally; locate the countries on the map and fresh water will be delivered to those in need; memorize simple numbers and hungry families receive meals.

The more you click, the more support is donated worldwide. Based on the number of clicks from users, sponsors and advertisers can evaluate the value of the traffic and donate an equivalent amount of money, goods, or services to the given cause. That then helps the non-profit organizations to better reach their missions and goals.

Contributing to a solution in a fun and simple way—that is what makes “click-to-donate” sites popular. The best part is that clicking is affordable, even in this economy!

What I like the most about working at EAST Tours is the company's value and emphasis on cultural diversity, protecting our world, and enhancing life experiences. I like that our clients come to us not just because we are “travel experts”- but because they share the same values, and together, we are contributing to global communities through ethical tourism. Likewise, I like the idea that my clicks truly make a difference to the greater good.

About The Author: Jackie Dunay is the Marketing and Sales Associate at E.A.S.T. Tours.
